Last night saw the first round of this season\u2019s Merit Competition<\/strong> at Dunchurch Photographic Society, with the theme \u201cStructure.\u201d<\/strong> It was a night to remember \u2014 both for the sheer quality and variety of images on display, and for the warmth \u00a0shared among members.<\/p>

A Challenge for the Judge<\/strong><\/h3>

Our judge for the evening, John Haines<\/strong>, certainly had his work cut out. With an incredible 90 images<\/strong> spread across four competitions, John faced the daunting task of evaluating a truly diverse collection of photographs. His thoughtful, constructive feedback was appreciated by all, and his ability to offer insight across such a broad range of styles was impressive.<\/p>

The interpretation of \u201cStructure\u201d proved to be wonderfully wide-ranging. From towering skyscrapers and intricate architecture<\/strong>, to delicate natural forms and abstract macro work<\/strong>, the theme inspired creativity at every level. The variety made for a dynamic and entertaining evening \u2014 a perfect showcase of what our members can do.<\/p>

New Faces Shining Bright<\/strong><\/h3>

It was especially heartening to see so many of our newer members<\/strong> entering their work and doing so well. The energy and fresh perspectives they bring are adding a real buzz to the club. With the scores carried forward<\/strong> to the next round \u2014 Intentional Camera Movement (ICM)<\/strong> in December<\/strong> \u2014 there\u2019s already a sense of friendly rivalry building!<\/p>

A Fond Farewell to Michael Bryan<\/strong><\/h3>

The evening also carried a note of sadness as we said goodbye to Michael Bryan<\/strong>, a long-standing member and stalwart supporter of the club, who is moving back to his native Wales<\/strong>. Michael\u2019s wit, good humour, and infectious enthusiasm for photography<\/strong> have been a cornerstone of Dunchurch PS for many years. He leaves behind a legacy of friendship and encouragement \u2014 and he will be greatly missed by us all.<\/p>
