A set number of prints and PDIs from each club are judged by an independent judge, who scores each image out of 20. The club with the highest combined score wins.<\/p><p>Our Society\u2019s entries are generally selected from top-placed images from the previous season.<\/p><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> All prints and images entered into internal competitions may be used in the Society\u2019s battles, inter-club events, and on the website\/social media unless the member notifies the Secretary in writing to opt out<\/p><h2>\ud83e\uddd1\u200d\u2696\ufe0f Judging<\/h2><ul><li>Each competition has a single judge, usually external to the Society.<\/li><li>The judge comments on all entries and will either score each image out of 20 or rank the top three images, along with a number of Commended and Highly Commended images.<\/li><\/ul><h2>\ud83d\udccb Competition Specific Details<\/h2><p>All members may enter any competition, including the Advanced section of the Merit competitions. Only \u201cNovices\u201d may enter the Club sections.<\/p><p><strong>A Novice<\/strong> is a member who has not won a Club Trophy in previous seasons or achieved a photographic distinction (FIAP, PAGB, or RPS). Any member may request to be moved from the Club section into Club Advanced prior to the first round of the Merit completion.<\/p><p>Images may be submitted as mounted prints (not framed) or as Projected Digital Images (PDIs).<\/p><p>When both prints and PDIs are judged on the same evening, prints are usually shown first so they can be displayed during the interval. Results for prints are normally announced at the start of the second half of the evening.<\/p><p>Trophies are awarded to first-place winners, or in Merit Competitions, to members with the highest aggregate score after three rounds. In the event of a tie, the trophy is shared. Trophies are held for one year and must be returned when requested.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aa9c20b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"aa9c20b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<section style=\"caret-color: #888888; color: #888888; font-weight: 600;\"><h2>\ud83c\udfc5 Individual Competition Details<\/h2><h3>John Hughes Trophy \u2013 Monochrome Prints<\/h3><p>Up to three monochrome prints on any subject. We follow the FIAP definition: black, white, and shades of grey count as monochrome; a single tone is allowed; partial toning or added colours make it a colour image.<\/p><h3>Gerry Coyle Memorial Trophy \u2013 Colour Prints<\/h3><p>Up to three colour prints on any subject.<\/p><h3>President\u2019s Trophy \u2013 Projected Digital Images<\/h3><p>Up to three PDIs on any subject.<\/p><h3>Jeff Bartlett Memorial Trophy \u2013 Panel of 3 PDIs<\/h3><p>Submit three related images on a theme of your choice, shown individually. Include a JPEG \u201cpanel summary\u201d (1600&#215;1200\u20133840&#215;2400) showing sequence and layout. Up to two panels may be entered.<\/p><h3>Summer Competition<\/h3><p>Separate Print and PDI sections featuring images taken over summer on a theme set by the Committee. Judged democratically by members on the first evening of the season.<\/p><h3>Jack Hemming Memorial Trophy<\/h3><p>Up to two PDIs.<\/p><h3>Summer Trophy<\/h3><p>Up to two Prints.<\/p><h3>Merit Competitions<\/h3><p>Run over three rounds. Subjects are announced before the season begins. There are two levels \u2014 Advanced and Novice \u2014 each with Print and PDI categories.<\/p><ul style=\"list-style-position: outside; list-style-type: disc;\"><li><strong>Advanced:<\/strong>\u00a0Walter Heath Trophy (PDIs) and Lanchester Trophy (Prints)<\/li><li><strong>Novice:<\/strong>\u00a0Jean Sutton PDI Trophy and Jean Sutton Print Trophy<\/li><\/ul><h3>Spontaneous &amp; Fun<\/h3><p>This is a light-hearted competition for projected images. Subject-wise anything goes but the image must have been taken using a mobile phone. You can only apply a minimal amount of editing and all images must have been taken since the last Spontaneous &amp; Fun competition. This competition will be judged by member ballot on the night.<\/p><h3>Scoring<\/h3><p>All Merit Competitions are scored out of 20. Separate tables are maintained for all four sections. In smaller entries (6 or fewer per section), novice entries may be judged within the main competition but scored separately.<\/p><h3>Nature Competitions<\/h3><ul style=\"list-style-position: outside; list-style-type: disc;\"><li><strong>Wally Mills Trophy:<\/strong>\u00a0Up to 2 Prints<\/li><li><strong>Toft Trophy:<\/strong>\u00a0Up to 2 PDIs<\/li><\/ul><p>Descriptive titles only (no \u201ccute\u201d names). We follow the PAGB definition of nature: images must feature living organisms as the main subject, with minimal artistic manipulation allowed.<\/p><\/section><section style=\"caret-color: #888888; color: #888888; font-weight: 600;\"><h2>\ud83d\udcdc Competition Rules<\/h2><ol><li>All photographs must be the original work of the author, who must hold copyright.<\/li><li>All image editing must be carried out by the author. Prints may be trade processed.<\/li><li>Entries close one week before judging night; late entries cannot be accepted.<\/li><li>The same image cannot be entered in both print and PDI format on the same evening.<\/li><li>Members must submit new and unique work; images scoring 19 or above in past seasons may not be reused.<\/li><li>Placed or commended images become ineligible for internal competitions in future years (but may be used for external battles).<\/li><li>Entries may be rejected if deemed inappropriate by the Competition Secretary.<\/li><\/ol><\/section><section style=\"caret-color: #888888; color: #888888; font-weight: 600;\"><h2>\ud83d\udda8\ufe0f Print Submissions<\/h2><ul style=\"list-style-position: outside; list-style-type: disc;\"><li>No minimum print size. Mounts must not exceed 500mm \u00d7 400mm \u00d7 4mm.<\/li><li>Label the reverse with your name and image title.<\/li><li>Submit a digital version (1600 \u00d7 1200px) for selection and display purposes.<\/li><li>All prints must be entered via\u00a0<a style=\"transition-timing-function: ease; transition-property: all;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.photoentry.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PhotoEntry.co.uk<\/a>. Only prints with an uploaded PDI are eligible.
