Nik Collection no longer working in Photoshop on your Mac? <\/strong>(by Eric Tatham)<\/em><\/p>\n

The Nik Collection plug-in that used to be free from Google is free no longer and will not be updated by Google.<\/p>\n

The newest version can be downloaded at a cost from\u00a0https:\/\/nikcollection.dxo.com<\/a><\/p>\n

However, the older version is still free and you may already have it but now find it doesn\u2019t work with the newest versions of Photoshop.<\/p>\n

But no need for us ‘Nik-ers’ to get all in a twist just yet!<\/p>\n

The following instructions work for me on my Mac. I am not sure if the same problem exists on Windows PCs! If it does, then some of the instructions below may still apply.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how to get it working again.<\/p>\n

1. \u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Get the plug-in files. Assuming you already have these in an older version of Photoshop, find the older Photoshop folder and open it. Then open the Plug-ins<\/strong> folder. If you have it, the Nik Collection will be in a folder named Google<\/strong>. Check inside and make sure it has all the Nik components.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t have the files you should still be able to find an archived version online.<\/p>\n

2. \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Copy the whole Google<\/strong> folder. Now find the folder for the latest version of Photoshop. Open the new version\u2019s Plug-ins<\/strong> folder. e.g. Finder->Applications->Adobe Photoshop CC 2019->Plugins<\/strong><\/p>\n

3. \u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Restart Photoshop and you should find Nik Collection under the Filter<\/strong> menu.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

4. \u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Older versions of the Nik Collection cannot automatically create new layers in Photoshop and, as this is the default setting in Nik, Photoshop crashes when trying to save a Nik adjustment.<\/p>\n

To work round this;<\/p>\n

\u00a0 a. \u00a0<\/em> <\/strong>\u00a0Open your image in Photoshop<\/p>\n

\u00a0 b.<\/strong> <\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0Make a copy of the image in a new layer<\/p>\n

\u00a0 c.<\/strong> <\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0Open the Nik filter and select Settings<\/strong> in the bottom left of the Nik screen.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 d. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Select AFTER CLICKING OK<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u00a0 e.<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0 \u00a0Choose the option apply the filtered effect to the current layer<\/strong> and then OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
