Our thirteenth meeting of the season built wonderfully on the inspiration we received earlier in the year from David Bray’s introduction to creating Audio Visual (AV) sequences. Last night, members put theory into practice and treated us to a rich and varied collection of AV presentations — a virtual journey that took us from the forests of British Columbia to the temples of Cambodia, with a reflective stop at Saint David’s Cathedral along the way.

Several of the sequences didn’t just rely on still imagery; members also incorporated well-chosen video clips to enhance the storytelling and add movement, atmosphere, and depth to their narratives.

After each presentation, the creator was invited to speak about their process: how the sequence was put together, which software tools were used, and the particular challenges encountered during production. This behind-the-scenes insight was as fascinating as the work itself, revealing just how much time, experimentation, and problem-solving goes into crafting a compelling AV piece.

Members used a wide range of software, reflecting the diverse workflows and comfort levels within the group. Applications included DaVinci Resolve, Apple Final Cut Pro, iMovie, and Pictures2EXE, each chosen for its own strengths — whether precise control, speed and simplicity, or dedicated AV slideshow functionality.

It was an evening full of creativity, learning, and appreciation for the AV medium. A big thank-you to all who contributed their work and shared their experiences. We look forward to seeing how these skills continue to develop throughout the rest of the season.
