12th Meeting of the Season
With our chairperson Mark Ellis away enjoying a well-deserved holiday, it was our secretary, David Bray, who stepped up to welcome members and introduce our guest speaker for the evening, Richard Cobbey. His presentation, “Moments In Time,” proved to be an engaging journey through a lifetime of image-making.
Richard opened his talk with a charming look back at the very first photograph he ever captured on a Box Brownie, a reminder of how humble beginnings can spark a lifelong passion. From there, he guided us through decades of photographic exploration and development, sharing both the images and the stories behind them.
Throughout the evening, we travelled with Richard to a variety of evocative locations – Venice, Le Mans, Provence, Brighton, and more. Each destination came with its own set of visual delights, from atmospheric street scenes to striking motorsport moments and beautifully observed landscapes.
What made the talk particularly insightful was Richard’s willingness to explain the creative thought processes behind many of his award-winning images. He discussed composition, timing, and how he approaches a scene to draw out not just what it looks like, but what it feels like. His reflections offered plenty of inspiration for photographers of all levels.
Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable and thought-provoking evening, and we extend our thanks to Richard for sharing his work and experiences with us—and to David for hosting in Mark’s absence.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting!
