Last night saw one of the highlights of the Dunchurch Photographic Society calendar – the annual competition for Best Colour Print, the Gerry Coyle Memorial Trophy.
Our guest judge, Catherine Knee, certainly had her work cut out. With an impressive 63 prints entered, the sheer scale of the task was matched only by the high standard of work on display. Catherine offered thoughtful and constructive comments throughout the evening, carefully working her way through each image before making her final selections.
What made the competition particularly enjoyable was the breadth of subject matter. Members showcased their talents across an astonishing variety of genres: sweeping landscapes, striking portraits, evocative shots of wildlife, nostalgic studies of steam trains, as well as some wonderfully creative abstracts. This diversity not only demonstrated the range of skills within the Society, but also made for a truly engaging evening for everyone in attendance.
It was especially heartening to see our new members getting involved in the competition – and doing so well. Their entries added fresh perspectives and new ideas to the mix, and it was clear that their contributions are already enriching the Society. We look forward to seeing even more from them in future competitions.
It was a fitting tribute to Gerry Coyle’s legacy – a celebration of colour photography at its best, and a reminder of the enthusiasm and talent that continues to thrive in the Society.
Congratulations to all who entered, and a special thank you to Catherine for guiding us through such a rich collection of work with warmth, expertise, and good humour.
